VJ Fest Istanbul premiered in 2008 as the first VJ art festival in Turkey. In just three years it became one of the most inspiring VJ gatherings in the region, hosting 46 VJs, 29 DJs and musicians and 2 academicians from 18 countries.
Here is the quick tour, and the full archive has the detail:
- 2008 - the premiere: 19 VJs from 10 countries, free workshops at Studio Live Technik in Beyoglu.
- 2009 - 33 artists from 12 countries, with talks and software workshops across Dogzstar, Ghetto and Studio Live Technik.
- 2010 - an international line-up and a deeper workshop programme on live visual performance.
- 2011 - workshops at Galatasaray ITM and performances at club Mute.
Across those editions the festival grew from VJ-ing for DJs into something wider: live ink painting on video surfaces, literature and new-media crossovers, and live-cinema projects. Meet the people behind it on the artists pages.
